How did you guys meet, tell me all?
We actually met through tinder around 7 years ago! Hannah at the time thought tinder was a game. Luckily Hannah agreed to meet up with me as she knew my brother as they were at music school together. In fact, Hannah’s mum was a teaching assistant and remembers me in primary school. My mum used to work in the same school and listened to Hannah’s reading. Anyway, Hannah agreed to meet up as we had mutual friends. On our first date I took Hannah to a steak house and I remember she ordered a breaded chicken burger, which wasn’t even on the menu. It was at that point I knew she was a keeper! Turns out we had never met before but our families knew each other well. We went to the same schools, the same city for university and visited the same pubs at Christmas! IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
So I proposed in 2019 on top of a fortress in Hvar, Croatia. Hannah was definitely not expecting it at all, as I had thrown her off the idea of us getting married. Hannah was so astounded she made me get down on one knee twice. I remember the walk up to the fortress (I love history) she kept moaning that it was such a long steep walk. She didn’t even want to go up there and I’m thinking Jesus Christ, I’m trying to propose here!
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
Hannah wanted a church wedding and I always imagined getting married in a church and we found a beautiful church near to us. In terms of the reception, we wanted to have a more personal and intimate wedding, not at some random venue that we had no link to. We love my parent’s garden, its views over the fields and thought it would be perfect to have our reception there. Hannah is creative and had a lot of ideas for decorating and we had more freedom as it was our venue. My parents were well up for it!
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
Hannah did a lot of research on Pinterest! But we always wanted something quite simple and rustic. As we postponed our wedding, Hannah gave herself a few more tasks to make things! Being a musician, Hannah arranged the music and really enjoyed picking unique pieces that mean something to us. We have tried to break away from the cliché or more commonly heard music you get at weddings.
What is your first song and why?
You are my Destiny by Lionel Richie is one of Rob’s favourite songs. I remember him playing this a lot in the car when we first met, so it seemed like a good choice! Although we may just boycott the first dance!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Make the planning fun! With so much to think of, planning a wedding can be very stressful, especially in the middle of a pandemic! It’s easy to forget the journey, so have fun!
