Late November wintery wedding at The Ferry House Inn. This quaint venue, surrounded by marshland with a gorgeous low sun was simply perfect. Even the icy feel in the air added to the occasion, helping create a very warm and cozy feel. The Ferry House Inn is a 16th Century pub, so although fairly dark inside, it gives that rustic and authentic feel, especially with it’s gorgeous live fires. Check it out below.
First names: Simon & Zoe
Ages: 29 & 26
Wedding date: Saturday 25th November 2017 (The same date as both our Grandparents)
Venue: Ferry House Inn
How did you guys meet, tell me all?
Embarrassingly I can take credit for making the first move haha!… Almost 5 years ago, I spotted Simon across the dance floor of a local pub one night with some friends I knew of his. I was too shy to go over to him, so after investigation and a week of texting, we started hanging out and spending time together going on many memorable dates. Very quickly we were FBO (Facebook Official) lol! My life has definitely changed for the better and right from the start, I always knew I’d marry him one day … and here we are!
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
I always said I’d never propose on an obvious day…so on Christmas Day 2015 I disguised the engagement ring in a candle box and sealed it up in its packaging as new and put it under the tree for Zoe to open. My heart was beating like a drum when she started to unwrap what she thought was just a candle … I caught her so much by surprise, she just looked up at me in complete shock! And then I asked her the all important question! We were both so excited and it was amazing to tell all our friends and family on Christmas Day.
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
The Ferry House Inn was the venue for us all along! Zoe would go and watch the annual firework display there with her family on her birthday when she was growing up but hadn’t been back there for years. We knew that it was now a wedding venue and we both really wanted a barn wedding so we were itching to go and see it for ourselves! The twinkly lights, open fires and amazing views sold it! We knew it would be the perfect setting for a cosy winter wedding.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
Winter is our favourite time of year, so that was definitely our inspiration. Winter is all about being cosy and we really wanted to create this in the barn with gold and neutral colours, candles and twinkly lights. The idea of it being dark at our wedding breakfast with all the lights and candles lit was the perfect setting to us and we couldn’t wait to see it altogether on the day.
What is your first song and why?
Our first song is Over and Over Again by Nathan Sykes. One morning, when we were lying in bed, I played this song to Zoe and after hearing it and listening to the lyrics I could see she was getting emotional at the thought of hearing it on the big day. It was a no brainer!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Once you have booked the wedding, start planning and making bookings as soon as you can. We had just less than 2 years to plan and had a few months to chill before the big day arrived. It felt so good knowing everything was done and all we had to do was get excited.
