Robyn and Jack’s wedding at Farnham Castle was elegant, stylish and fun! From the stunning Church, to Farnham Castle’s beautiful grounds, this had it all. With crazy golf, pop up bars and a party that could have gone on forever, for me personally, it was hard to pack down after such a wonderful day. Check out their amazing wedding below.
First names: Robyn & Jack
Ages: 27 & 28
Wedding date: 15th September 2018
Venue: St Andrew’s Church & Farnham Castle
How did you guys meet, tell me all?
We met at a tiki nightclub in London called Mahiki in Green Park. It was a random Tuesday night; I was dragged out by my friends and Jack dragged his friends out! Our eyes caught each other’s whilst I did a ‘room scan’ for any talent! We had our first date the following Friday and we’ve never looked back.
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
We were on holiday in St Lucia over Christmas and New Year with my parents. On one of the last nights (New Year’s Day) Jack arranged for us to have a private dinner on the beach. Jack waited until our desserts arrived when he got up from the table, walked round to my side and put his hand down the front of his trousers….to retrieve a ring box (thank goodness!) that didn’t fit in the pocket of his (very) tight chinos! After saying YES the heavens opened and a massive tropical storm started. Luckily, we were under a gazebo and at that moment a dog came running in for cover, everyone who knows me knows how obsessed I am with dogs so the whole thing was perfect and very special!
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
We looked at quite a few. We started looking at venues around where we live and also central London. We thought we’d found it but we went down to Farnham to see Jack’s parents one weekend and we managed to get a last-minute appointment to look round Farnham Castle. We knew straight away it was for us. We didn’t really have a list of requirements as such as I’m not one who’s been dreaming of my wedding since I was a little girl, instead we just went on a feeling and we are so glad we did.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
I wanted a very classic, timeless wedding. I’m from Jersey in the Channel Islands so that very quickly became the inspiration for our table plan and table names – I wanted to bring Jersey to Farnham Castle! I also love lavender so we wanted to bring that into the flowers and the colour scheme.
What is your first song and why?
Bonfire Heart by James Blunt. It’s a song that’s really resonated with us throughout our relationship. On our first anniversary I put a little montage of pictures from our first year together for Jack and overlaid this song, so we both knew straight away it had to be that song!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
We have two pieces of advice that we feel go hand in hand. The first is not to rush it and give yourself plenty of time. Jack and I had over a year and a half to plan our day and although that might seem excessive, we didn’t have any (major) stress throughout the planning. We genuinely didn’t have to compromise on anything; we had plenty of time to book all the suppliers we really wanted and to put all the little special touches into our day.
The second piece of advice is to try and see your wedding as a journey, rather than just a day. It’s hard to justify spending that much money on just a day, but you can more so if you spread it over a longer period of time. Take enjoyment out of the whole wedding planning experience by creating special moments and memories together. We’ll never forget the blind wine tasting evening we did with my parents to pick the wedding wine, or picking over 500 sprigs of lavender from our front garden one Sunday night!
