Laura and Alex’s Spring wedding at East Quay Venue in Whitstable was such an amazing day! Not only are these two such awesome people, but they got married at one of the coolest venues in Kent. From the beach to the old fishing village, this was a pretty awesome wedding.
With the stormy weather, dark skies and the threat of rain, these guys just put it to the back of their mind. But somehow, East Quay Venue seems to look better in moody light, if indeed that’s at all possible! However, at around 6pm, the sun decided to show, if only for half an hour. You get such incredible light at Whitstable. I would say it’s the best in the country!

First names: Alex and Laura

Wedding date: 28 April 2018
Venue: East Quay Venue, Whitstable.
How did you guys meet, tell me all?
We met at a Valentines Day rugby match for Sheffield Uni 10 years ago. Laura came along to watch her mates play and I asked her to hold my yoghurt whilst I played a game… The rest is history!
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
We bought our first flat in Greenwich two years ago and since then we’ve loved it so I knew I wanted to propose there. I’d bought the ring from the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter and had planned to propose in Greenwich Park on our way to dinner one night… Little did I know that the park closed at dusk, so my big moment was interrupted by the Park Rangers in their security van who were asking us to leave the park! I then tried to propose by the Royal Naval College but once again it wasn’t meant to be as a group of tourists asked us to take a photograph of them. It was third time lucky as I ended up proposing when we were walking along the Thames overlooking the river – and despite all of this, Laura still didn’t have a clue!
What made you choose your venue, did you look at many?
From the outset, we both wanted to try and make the day as relaxed as possible so we were looking for a venue that could be flexible like the ones available in NYC which can be seen at https://www.venuesnyc.com/ has a list of venues that is quite spacious and affordable at the same time. We love being by the sea and had spent a few weekends down in Whitstable before so when we came to see East Quay we both fell in love with the venue straight away. Clare and the team are brilliant and there are so many options for the day itself. So we opted for a proper seaside wedding with fish and chips and an ice cream cart for dessert.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
The seaside!
What is your first song and why?
We’re going a bit off piste.. Journey, Don’t Stop Believing – it’s a song that has great memories from our uni days and we both love a good sing along.
What would be your number one tip to other couples?
Weddings are a stressful as you make them so don’t worry about the little things. For us we wanted our wedding to be a big party with all our family and friends – so we’re focusing our efforts on the food, drink and entertainment!
