This wet wedding at East Quay Venue was probably one of the most fun wedding’s I’ve had the pleasure of being involved in. Wet weather, or in this case constant rain is always the thing that most couples dread on their big day. But I have completely different experiences! Most of the time, rainy, wet weddings seem to create a ‘let’s party’ kind of spirit and this wedding was just that!
Before we begin, I need to fill you in on how this wedding went. As it wasn’t your average wedding itinerary. Far from it in fact. This day was based around a party and literally minutes after the speeches, the first ceilidh started. In other words, a good old fashion barn dance! From there, more partying and then another ceilidh session. These guys just didn’t stop dancing! Then to top it all off, midway through the party, a surprise firework display took place.
Even in the pouring rain, and low temperatures, Fran and Harry showed how a wedding could and should be. They seemed to love every minute and didn’t stop laughing throughout. These guys even had a small dip in the sea. I tip my hat to Fran and Harry, truly amazing people and a wonderful wedding to capture.
So, let’s find out more about Fran and Harry and see how the wedding went below. Oh and check out the fireworks, simply awesome.
First names: Fran and Harry
Ages: 33 and 36
Wedding date: Saturday 22 September 2018
Venue: East Quay Venue, Whitstable
How did you guys meet, tell me all? [Fran] We were actually set up by our friend Sophie (one of the bridesmaids), who lived in a house share with Harry at the time. She invited me to a party where Harry and I were the only people who didn’t know everyone, so we naturally gravitated towards one another. We got on really well, he walked me back to the tube after the party, we had our first kiss, exchanged numbers, and the rest was history!
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story? [Harry] Fran works in France a lot, so I planned to propose to her the week I was due to go on a trip to Normandy. We were visiting this castle (where William the Conqueror was born, no less) on a really sunny day, and were standing at the top of the tower with no-one around, when I decided to pop the question. I think she thought I was suffering from vertigo at first as I looked pretty nervous and suddenly knelt down, but she soon realised what was going on once she saw the ring, and she said yes, obviously! It was perfect.
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many? [Fran] We didn’t look at any other venues! I was set on having it at the East Quay Venue as she went to a wedding there three years previously and really loved the low-key, casual vibe, plus the fact that they did a BBQ wedding breakfast. [Harry] Based on what we’re both like, it was never going to be a formal affair! And luckily I loved the venue too when I visited it with her, phew!
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding? A beach theme incorporating all East Quay Venue has around it.
What is your first song and why? We’ve decided to have a ceilidh instead of a first dance – the objective being to get EVERYONE up on the dance floor with one another, rather than watching our terrible moves!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding? Start preparations early, don’t overthink it, however much or little you spend, it’s sure to be a great day.
