How did you guys meet, tell me all?

We met at a mutual friends birthday party. Amy was kind enough to drive me home at the end of the evening, we got on really well that night that I thought I would try my luck but I’ve never been one with the ladies. The next day I messaged her and after a brief conversation I went in with my number. Turned out that was a conversation killer and she left the country to go travelling shortly after.

Two years later at the same friends wedding we met again. My friend Alex suggested I text Amy again, I was a bit sceptical as it didn’t go very well the first time, but I’m so glad I did as here we are!

How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?

We were travelling New Zealand, a trip of a lifetime, it very quickly became a special place for us and somewhere we would call home. I already knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amy, so it was a no brainer that I would propose during our time here.

We decided one weekend to go for a hike on a route we had been wanting to do for a while. I thought this would be the perfect time to pop the question. I had to hide the ring in the bottom pocket of my hiking trousers in the hope Amy wouldn’t spot the box! We hiked the main route but I thought we would go up a bit further to get the amazing view and boy was it worth it!

We were taking in the view which was beautiful, looking down on bright blue waters, it was so peaceful we were the only ones up there. Dan started saying how he was having an amazing time and couldn’t imagine being without me. I thought how lovely and that he was just generally being nice. The next second he was down on one knee and out came a box and there he asked me to marry him. In total shock, tears started rolling and I asked if he was joking, I didn’t believe it was for real. After asking a few more times if it was joke, I slowly began to realise he was being serious. After him telling me how uncomfortable it was down on one knee, I managed to get out a yes!

It couldn’t of been more special!

What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?

We had a look at three venues and when we arrived at Ruffynes barn we instantly fell in love! The rustic, natural look was everything we wanted. A blank canvas to make our own! The outside area was exactly what we was looking for to. As we are both outdoorsy people, we really wanted to be able to have space to get married outside. Ruffynes just had it all…!

What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?

We didn’t really have a theme as such, we just wanted to bring everything we love together and make the day as personal as possible. We also didn’t want to take away to much from the natural look of the barn as it’s so beautiful as it is, we really just wanted to highlight it.

What is your first song and why?

Our first song is Agape by Bears Den. When we first started discussing plans this was the song we both came out with! As shortly after we got together we were listening to music while making dinner in Dan’s parents kitchen and this was the song we were prancing around to and it’s just stuck. It was the perfect choice for us.

What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?

Take your time with it all and don’t stress. It is easier said than done but it really doesn’t have to be stressful. Enjoy it, it’s your day and should be how you want it!
