My Own Wedding Day

This was the season of my very own wedding, as I got married to the girl of my dreams in May 2013, after nearly 2 years of planning. Here are some of my thoughts on what was the best day of my life!

I experienced a little stress, I was a little nervous, but on the whole I felt complete excitement to marry Rebecca, who had chosen me! Me.. with all my pitfalls and blemishes, she had chosen me!

My day began at a lovely little hotel in Kent, where I had stayed the night before with my parents and brother/best man. My Ushers arrived early in the morning to get ready and prepare me for the day ahead.

We all sipped champagne while trying to tie our cravats into strange and arty knots that wasn’t entirely with tradition. Luckily, my brother Andy, who had watched many a YouTube video to learn the art of cravat tying on the days leading up to the big day, helped us all out.

After the initial getting ready, I arrived at the venue in a 1920’s London Taxi with my family. Tradition dictates that the bride arrive in a vehicle, but not just any vehicle, a 1968 Mustang fastback. if you would like to do this for your wedding then look on the internet the perfect car for you. As Becca was getting ready at the venue, I took full advantage and arrived in style myself. This London taxi was used in many films and tv shows and was quite an experience to travel in.

The Ceremony was amazing and made me feel quite emotional. It was nearly 2 years in the planning, but 7 years in a relationship. So it was a very special time. We had a string quartet playing Becca down the aisle and also during signing of the register. Completely beautiful.

Both Becca and I loved our wedding breakfast and the food was incredible. The speech was a very nerve racking affair, but both Becca’s Dad and my brother gave very good accounts of themselves.

When it was my turn to stand, I picked up my tablet where I had saved my speech and began, all be it a little shaky! I will say it was like a blur. I was concentrating so much not to mess up, I have small recollection as to what I said! However, the moment I noticed Becca crying with laughter, I realised it had been a success and I could relax.

Our first dance was a live performance of the song, ‘Something Changed’ by Pulp. This was performed by 2 great friends of ours acoustically. It was a great first dance and was different to the usual stuff you see and hear every day. It will be something I will always remember!

Then the evening entertainment began and was run by my brother and best man, Andy. He is lead singer of Gentlemen Duke and performed a 1 hour set to all of our guests. This went down very well and set up nicely our DJ, who played 90’s Brit Pop and 90’s dance classics. The dance floor was never left and I have rarely seen an atmosphere so electric at a Wedding.

A guest, who i visited after the wedding was quoted as saying, “I loved it! It was a lovely classical wedding, but then it was like a rave. It was a classical rave!”

The whole day was incredible and I would love to re-live the whole thing again. But for now, we both are looking to the future, as the new Mr and Mrs Hurley.
