Check out Isabel and Josh’s military wedding at Sandhurst and Rivervale Barn. This formal and fun December wedding had everything this couple hoped for. With a formal ceremony to start at The Royal Memorial Chapel, located inside history filled Sandhurst, proceedings then headed onto the gorgeous Rivervale Barn in Hampshire. This was no ordinary wedding, with the normal wedding itinerary thrown out the window. These guys did it their own way, in their own style and everyone certainly had a lot of fun. Check it out below.
First names: Isabel & Josh
Ages: 27 (both)
Wedding date: 2nd December 2017
Venue: Royal Memorial Chapel, Sandhurst and then Rivervale Barn, Yateley
How did you guys meet, tell me all?
In 2009, as freshers at Swansea University. We both studied Psychology and met in the lift of our halls realising we were on the same course and lived in the same building. You could say our eyes caught across a crowded lecture theatre, but that’s a little cheesy! And the rest is history…
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
Izzy was convinced Josh was going to propose whilst on a winter city break in Paris (!) however, Josh had his own game plan and wanted to wait until he had commissioned from Sandhurst, 4 months later. Josh chose to propose on St George’s Day 2016, and had booked a weekend away in Cornwall to celebrate Izzy’s birthday and his commissioning. Josh took Izzy to Porthcurnick Beach, just north of Portscatho which she had always visited as a child on family holidays, and, after a walk across the beach and around the headland, proposed in front of the sparkling sea.
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
We knew we wanted to get married at Sandhurst chapel and to have a military wedding so the ceremony venue was an easy decision. It holds a lot of memories for Josh during his year at Sandhurst, as well as being a spectacular building. We only looked at two reception venues but fell in love with Rivervale Barn straight away. We saw the venue as a beautiful blank canvas to dress as we wished but could appreciate its natural beauty.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
I (Izzy) have always wanted a winter wedding and just love the magic of the lead up to Christmas. We felt this fitted perfectly with a military wedding as Josh would be in a woollen uniform for the ceremony, which may have been a little uncomfortable had we chosen to get married in the height of summer! We wanted lots of candles and greenery with some festive touches, mistletoe etc.
What is your first song and why?
As I write this, it is 2 weeks before the wedding and we are still unsure of what song to choose. We want to choose something that is fun to dance to and will compliment our swing band. We don’t really have a ‘song’ so it has been really hard to choose from the many songs that we do both love. It will almost definitely be a Michael Buble song as he is a favourite of both of ours but the song choice may only be decided days before!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Make sure you do your day, your way. Simple as that.
