Jo and Scott’s Micklefield Hall wedding day was elegant, gorgeous and at times, very wet! It was a day that proved difficult to read, with the weather one minute glorious sunshine, the next heavy rain! However, it’s safe to say these guys had a fantastic day and it was a real honour to capture their day. Check it out below.
First names: Jo and Scott
Ages: 28 and 30
Wedding date: 27.7.17
Venue: Our Lady Help of Christians Church and Micklefield Hall
How did you guys meet, tell me all? We met at school when I (Jo) was about 13. Scott was the year above at school. It wasn’t until a couple of years later Scott asked me out and it took him another year or so to convince me. I was 16 at the time and we have been together ever since.
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story? Our 10 year anniversary was coming up and as we had just bought our first home we decided to have a celebratory meal at home but mid-way through the week Scott decided we should go away for the night. We left on Friday evening and I had no idea where we were going although he assured me it was somewhere not too far and a hotel we hadn’t been to before. As we got closer it all seemed very familiar and it turns out we had stayed there for a previous anniversary. We arrived in the Cotswolds (one of our favourite places to visit) and by the time we had dinner were both exhausted and ready for bed. Scott said we had to be up early the next morning to go and see some castle ruins and gave me a story behind it which I can’t remember. I woke up the next morning and looked out the window to find that it had been snowing all night and the view looked beautiful so although I’m not a morning person I was eager to get outside, so we got up and dressed – I was wearing my finest woolly hat and wellies- and we went for a walk. After a short walk, slipping and almost breaking a bone, we arrived in the middle of a field, surrounded by snow and the castle ruins. It was only after a few minutes of walking around that I noticed Scott was acting strangely – it was then that he got down on one knee and proposed with a haribo ring. I was in complete shock – he never gets anything past me. And then he revealed the real ring.
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many? We only looked at a couple, we knew that we wanted a barn, something quite simple and rustic with beautiful grounds and space for our large families. As soon as we found Micklefield online we knew it was the right one and couldn’t wait to visit it.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding? We don’t have a colour scheme or anything like that but it is quite a rustic theme – lots of hessian and natural colours.
What is your first song and why? We chose Ed Sheeran – Perfect. As soon as we heard the words it seemed to fit us, being kids when we fell in love. Once it started being played on the radio lots of friends and family called and messaged to ask if we’d heard it.
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding? Enjoy it and don’t stress over the small things. The most important things to us, other than actually getting married, were the food, the music and the photographer/videographer, so choose these carefully and just worry about having the day you both want and not trying to please everyone else.
