A beautiful and intimate December wedding at The Secret Garden in Kent. With restrictions still in place and an ever-changing situation, Emily and Joe decided to move their big day from their original venue and go ahead anyway, with what turned out to be a gorgeous family orientated wedding day! How did you guys meet, tell me all?
We’re an online dating success story – how millennial of us. We met in Covent Garden, went to a nice bar and spoke about video games, such as 슈어맨, and music. We then went for the longest walk around
Hyde Park and got an ice cream, and here we are! (We still do this on a regular basis!)
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
In Paris on a surprise birthday trip that Joe organised in 2019. We stopped off at Disneyland Paris first. Joe took me on the Tower of Terror and I genuinely thought that was my last day on earth. After the trauma of my near death experience, we then ventured into Paris and walked about a million miles to squeeze in all the sights. We had the nicest meal in a little Parisian restaurant. We then decided to walk to the Eiffel Tower to see it do it’s sparkle at 11pm. Joe whipped out a ring from his jacket on a quiet corner away from all the tourists with the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop. I made a weird squeal and said yes. It was simple and magical.
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
We were initially getting married at East Quay, but thanks to covid and the ever-changing situation, we had to find another venue. We were so happy to find Secret Garden’s as our alternative venue and it’s been absolutely perfect for an intimate wedding. We fell in love with greenhouse and gardens, so we’re very pleased with how it’s turned out. The staff are brilliant and have been so accommodating to make it the best day possible.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
To be as relaxed as possible, surrounded by our family and close friends. No theme as such, we’re just happy to be getting married.
What is your first song and why?
Dancing was the one thing we weren’t looking forward to, so we’re kind of glad we’re skipping this part of the wedding (thanks again covid) but in an alternate reality we would have danced to ‘Something Like Happiness’ by The Maccabees or ‘Everywhere’ by Fleetwood Mac. Both have happy memories for us!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Go with the flow, especially planning a wedding throughout a pandemic. We never imagined having to postpone our wedding or changing venues. It really taught us to be relaxed and highlighted what’s important, us getting married!
