How did you guys meet, tell me all? We met just over 3 years ago at a mutual friends’ 40th birthday, we were kind of set up by some well-meaning friends. We didn’t realise that at the time though. During our first meeting, where we’d had a bit of a chat at the party and late into the night when there were just a few people left Nick was entertaining everyone telling funny stories. I remember looking across at him and thinking I like this guy!

Luckily it turned out he felt the same and Nick contacted me via facebook a couple of days later. We exchanged numbers and went out for drinks in Wimbledon for our first date the next Saturday. I know it’s a cliché but we just hit it off, we seemed to think the same about things and found we had quite a bit in common. We made each other laugh too and just had fun. Our first date couldn’t have been any better really, we then had 4 more within that first week and a couple of months later Nick asked me to move in with him.

How did you get engaged, is there a cool story? We were looking for a little weekend away, somewhere that was dog-friendly so we could take our dog with us. Nick found the most amazing place! Cliveden House Hotel was our destination and I could not wait!

We went on a Friday and later that evening, Nick and I went for dinner in the restaurant, the food was lovely and we were drinking champagne and having a great time.

The restaurant wasn’t fully booked so we found it a little strange that they sat us right next to another couple, especially when there were other tables available. I didn’t think too much about it at the time but Nick seemed a bit annoyed by it. However, we enjoyed a lovely evening together and afterwards went back to the room.

The following morning, Nick and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast, it was a lovely sunny day and after we’d eaten, Nick suggested the two of us go for a walk around the gardens.

On our walk in the gardens, there was a big, impressive statue on a plinth. I read an inscription in Italian on one side and then started to walk around the plinth to see if there was anything with a translation on it. I didn’t realise but Nick was following me around the plinth as he wanted to talk to me! In the end, to stop me from wandering off, he put his arm around me and said come here and look at the view I stopped and we took in the view together, having a kiss and a hug.

It was at that moment that he then said that he had something to ask me. He then began to get a ring out of his pocket and get down on one knee. I didn’t see it coming at all and was so surprised! In my shock I can’t remember exactly what I said, but I know I definitely said yes! Nick clearly has nerves of steel and is better than I thought of keeping secrets from me! I had no idea what he was up to and I didn’t pick up on any nerves at all.

He since confessed that he had planned on proposing the night before over dinner and had the ring box in his pocket the whole time but as we were sitting too close to another couple he changed his mind as it wasn’t quite right. I’m glad he did it when he did, it was pretty perfect.

What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many? Nick had been planning his proposal for a while, he’d also secretly been researching wedding venues online. When we got engaged, he already had a shortlist. Wotton House was the first place we viewed and we fell in love with it, we didn’t look at any others. Within two weeks of getting engaged, we had our venue and registrar booked.

What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding? This is going to sound super cheesy but I chose pale blue as our main colour based on Nick’s blue eyes. He looks good in the colour and I think it makes his eyes stand out even more. So our wedding theme is kind of based on that really, I’ve since added cream/white and also pale pink as it’s a Spring wedding and I wanted to bring some of the delicate colours around at the time into the day.

What is your first song and why? We’ve having Stevie Wonder, For once in my life for our first dance. We don’t have a song that’s ‘ours’, we chose this one as it’s a bit of a classic, it’s an upbeat song that we both really like and Stevie Wonder is a legend.

What would be your number one tip for other couples planning their wedding? Do what you want to do, thankfully we’ve had no pressure from family or anyone else to do things a certain way or invite certain people etc. We’ve just made it what we want it to be and that’s really important.
