Angela and Matt’s Cain Manor wedding in Hampshire was one of those weddings I just had to be part of. With Matt being a family friend, I felt more of a guest with an access all areas pass than photographer. It was so awesome seeing these guys tie the knot and at such a beautiful venue. Check out this stunning Cain Manor wedding below.
First names: Angela & Matthew
Ages: 33 & 30
Wedding date: 7th September 2017
Venue: Cain Manor
How did you guys meet, tell me all? We first met 13 years ago working in a record store and instantly bonded over our love of the same bands, music and films. This was all going swimmingly until the shop was sadly closed down (nothing to do with our impeccable music selections in store we should add), and with none of todays social media outlets to keep in contact our story could’ve ended there. However a reunion 10 years ago brought us back together and we’ve been having the best of times ever since.
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story? Matt picked a very memorable moment to propose – the day we moved into our first home! We’d had a bottle of vintage champagne on hold for our moving day and decided to enjoy it on the balcony as the sun was setting, to exchange ‘welcome to your new home’ cards with each other. Matt said he had bought a little present, lo and behold he was down on one knee! It was completely unexpected as we had been so caught up in buying the house and moving in. Angela’s shouting of ‘Are you serious?! And YES!’ certainly told the neighbours we’d moved in! For newlyweds out there, it’s definitely a must to hire local movers so you can focus more on your happiness rather than the stress of moving.
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many? We looked at hundreds online and around 4 or 5 in person, but Cain Manor ticked all our boxes. As we drove up the long winding driveway through the trees, a beautiful manor house greeted us, it’s large beamed ceremony room and accomodation for our wedding party meant it was on track to be a winner. It sealed the deal to have a Cain Manor wedding with their options of beautiful food and the ability to bring in our own speciality wines.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding? If it was just down the road I think we would’ve loved to have been married in Tuscany, our favourite place – so we decided to bring a little bit of our love for Italy into the wedding. Our tables were named after some of our favourite sights around the country – from the Ponte Vecchio in Florence to the Torre Rognosa in San Gimignano, and the venue decorated with olive branch foliage. As well as an Italian buffet our venue were kind enough to go off-piste with their menu choices and make us a Tiramisu for the wedding breakfast dessert. We wanted to make the whole feel of the wedding full of personal elements to us, so wedding favours included both homemade biscotti and we made CD’s for each of our guests with our favourite tracks that have seen us through the years so far, and personalized each of the wedding party with a special track for them. We also tried to use as many friends and family as possible as suppliers to keep the personal touch going – Kathy who arranged the flowers is a friend, Angela’s bespoke hairpiece was handmade by a very talented friend who designed it based on the dress design, and even our magician for the reception was the same guy who had performed at a show we went to the night we first said ‘I love you’ – tracked down after 9 years!
What is your first song and why? Alex Clare – Addicted to Love
Really we could’ve picked a dozen songs to have as our first dance as music means so much to us and connected to so many memories, but we thought all our friends would guess what a lot of these would be so we went off the radar and picked a new song and didn’t tell anyone. We’d heard another cover by Alex Clare and found this one night on Spotify and thought it was amazing. We know it’s going to be one of those tracks which everyone will know once the chorus kicks in.
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding? Get the big things sorted first. It’s so easy to get caught up in pinterest with the finer details – venue decoration, hairstyles, wedding favours etc. but these things fall into place once you can picture where you are, have a photographer and florist tied in. Then, you can enjoy the smaller details.
Putting a list of ‘to-do’s’ together early on and allocating Sundays over the months really helped. It meant we could assign ‘wedding planning’ days and make them ‘date days’ – ticking off major things to do and treating ourselves at the end with a lovely dinner for all our hard work. Although making your own wedding favours is absolutely lovely, do note, what you think is a afternoons work can turn out to be 3 days …especially when you decide to hand make and personalize over 50 Cd’s and cases as well as your own biscotti! Worth every moment though!
