How did you guys meet, tell me all? Our answer is as basic as it gets – Bumble! It might not be the grand narrative of love at first sight in a bustling crowd, but it’s our reality, thanks to the marvels of the internet. As Rory was still in the Royal Navy at the time, our initial interaction wasn’t completely smooth sailing (pardon the pun). In fact, it took two attempts before Rory replied. Apparently, securing a stable internet connection in the middle of the ocean is no mean feat – or so Rory would say! We will have been together for 6 years come November time!
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story? We got engaged whilst on holiday in Montenegro, which we would thoroughly recommend to anyone planning a getaway! Rory had recently got back from being at sea for 8 months solid, which was really hard for us both, so it was lovely timing. It was a really hot day and we walked up 1,350 steps to about 1200 metres on a hike called ‘The Ladder of Kotor’. The views were breath taking, but it’s fair to say Rory certainly made me work for the ring! It was completely worth it and I of course immediately said yes. I’m still not sure if it was due to the physical activity, or shock of walking back down as a fiancé, but my legs were very shaky on the descent!
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many? It was the first one we looked at! We loved that it was all contained in one place, and surrounded by the beautiful New Forest. We also really loved that it had the option for long banquet style tables, which is something we both were drawn to. The team have been super accommodating and helpful throughout our journey.
Tell me about your dress? Who was it designed by and was there a particular style you were drawn too?
My dress is by ‘Made with Love’ who are an Australian brand. I really struggled to find a dress I liked, as I was looking for something more contemporary and less traditional. The vast majority of shops I visited stocked mainly lace dresses, which although are lovely, just weren’t me! When I found ‘Lola’ I fell in love. I had envisaged a square neck, and without any lace in sight, knew she was the one!
What was the inspiration/theme/styling of your wedding? We like a minimalistic style, so wanted something modern and chic, but fun (hence having Ross as our photographer!). The barn itself is a bit of a blank canvas with white walls, but has lots of character with its beams. We decided on bright flowers to bring some colour and to compliment the bridesmaids’ dresses. Once I had picked my wedding dress, I thought tuxedos for the men would look really good, and luckily, Rory was on board with the idea!
What is your first song and why? Dreams – Gabrielle …It’s a banger!!! We both really love the song, its feel good, and reminds us of when we were young.
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding? Work as a team and try to enjoy the planning stage!
