Paige and Charlie’s Podere La Specola wedding in Tuscany was a beautifully intimate celebration of heritage and landscape. Nestled in the hills overlooking the Arno Valley, just south of Florence, this 14th-century estate offers a quintessentially Italian “hamlet” feel. As an editorial destination wedding photographer, I found that the villa’s mix of sun-bleached stone, terracotta floors, and ancient olive groves created a warm, textured backdrop for soulful, high-end imagery.

The Couple’s Vision: An Intimate Hamlet in Chianti
Podere La Specola (also known as Villa La Torre) is steeped in history; it was once the home of the Renaissance philosopher Marsilio Ficino. When I asked Paige and Charlie why they chose this specific corner of Tuscany, they described wanting a venue that felt like a “home-away-from-home”—a private sanctuary where their closest family could gather and stay together under one roof.
The beauty of this estate lies in its layout—a collection of three residential units surrounding a central courtyard. This created a relaxed, communal atmosphere for the entire weekend. Drawing on my background in the national press, I focused on capturing the unscripted energy of their stay—the shared laughter by the 16-metre pool, the quiet nerves in the vaulted sitting room, and the candlelit dinner that stretched long into the night.
The Ceremony: Vows in the Val d’Arno
The ceremony took place outdoors, framed by the estate’s five-hectare park and the rolling greenery of the Val d’Arno. For Paige, the standout moment of the day was the walk through the gardens toward Charlie; the scale of the landscape and the stillness of the afternoon made the exchange of vows feel incredibly grounded.
The styling for the day was kept intentionally simple to let the surroundings take centre stage. Neutral tones and local flora complemented the historic architecture, while the famous Tuscan light provided a natural spotlight for the couple’s portraits among the cypress trees. As a photographer, my goal was to blend into the background, documenting the genuine connections between the couple and their loved ones in a way that feels both modern and timeless.
