Wedding ceremonies. I think we should be able to marry anywhere we choose!

Wedding Ceremonies

Lets get with the times! We should be able to marry anywhere. If the americans can do it, i’m sure we can!

I think times are changing here in the UK and the wedding world needs to embrace it. Over in the US, people can marry anywhere they like! Over here, we still have to marry in registered locations, whether that’s a church or a site that has received its licence to hold a wedding ceremony.  I believe things need to change.

Venue choice doesn’t detract from the pledge, the legal requirement or the promise of love and devotion. It’s just the venue and the surrounding of which these promises and pledges are created.

People are wanting more. People want to get married on the beach, in their childhood garden, in the old disused building or farmers field.

Our friends across the atlantic already allow such practices, but over here we are cornered, surrounded by beaucrocity and stuffy old views.

The church themselves should be embracing change. It wasn’t long ago, news reports were rife with ‘marriage down and divorce up’.

If people want to marry anywhere, let it happen. I am completely for it. Things need to change and for the better.

When I was planning my own wedding, the one thing I wanted was to create my own. I wanted a beautiful old building in kent followed by all the extras and arrangements that went with my personality. But no, we’re told we have to marry in licences venues that cost an arm and a let. Its tough finding that venue . That one that shouts personality, fun and of course ‘us’. I know I’m not alone.

It’s tough because, when you look for wedding inspiration online, you see amazing weddings on blogs and magazines. They look fantastic and you think, ‘Yeah, that’s a bit of me.’ But when it comes to actually booking the venue, the bureaucracy blanket falls over you.

Things are halfway there already! We already have a system where beautiful venues can hold marriage licences. We just need that extra push.

I have decided to take this issue on. I think we need laws passed whereby we can marry anywhere within the UK. (This will include the same as the US laws) Marriage will go up and weddings will be able to showcase the personality and love of the couple even more.

Isn’t that what it’s all about?
But first, please comment with your ideas, whether you are for or against. I’d like to know your feeling on the subject. Are you like me and would like something a little different or are you a ‘traditional’ and want weddings to stay within the confines of the churches or nominated licensed premises?
