Rachel and Callum’s wedding at Hounslow Hall Estate, in the heart of Buckinghamshire, was just stunning. With lockdown restrictions easing and weddings now going ahead after another long break, it was fantastic to see such a lovely couple, enjoy such an amazing day! It was certainly worth the wait.
First names: Callum and Rachel
Ages: Both 30
Wedding date: Saturday 22nd May 2021
Venue: Hounslow Hall Estate
How did you guys meet, tell me all?
Rachel had just turned 18 and was working overnights at McDonald’s on weekends while at college. Callum worked, collecting glasses, in a bar in Milton Keynes, where his sister was the manager. He would drive his 2002 Corsa through the drive-thru in the early hours, when the queues of drunks had quietened down. Often, Callum and his friend, Steven, would have to wait for their food to be cooked. Rachel and Callum got talking and would look forward to their weekly encounters. Names were exchanged and they became friends on Facebook. They went bowling for their first date (Rachel won) and the rest is history.
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
We were in the idyllic island of Gili Trawangan, just off the coast of Lombok in Indonesia. The holiday started rocky (with the airline losing Rachel’s luggage!) We were there over the Christmas holidays. On Christmas day we had both agreed that no presents would be exchanged and instead we would pay to have a day scuba diving. We had an amazing time! Callum had planned to propose at some point on the day trip but was asked to leave his bag (which contained the ring) in an open bag space in the dive centre! We had booked a meal that night in our stunning hotel. We had eaten there before and the food had been delicious. We hadn’t realised that for the ‘Christmas dinner’ they were serving a buffet style menu. By the time we made it to the restaurant after our busy day, the food had flies flying over it. It was really hard to enjoy the meal with food poisoning an almost guarantee; Callum’s second plan of a proposal over dinner was shattered. During the meal we met two lovely girls from Holland. Rachel complained about how we’d been together 7 years but still had no ring (unbeknown that it was in Callum’s pocket!) Back in the room, we were lying in bed (after making love) and Callum rolled over on the bed, showed me the most beautiful ring and asked me to marry him. No knee. Both naked. On Christmas day. After agreeing no gifts. Of course I said yes!
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
It was a natural and easy option for us. Callum’s family own a farm and his sister runs a wedding events company from it.
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
The theme WAS to have a rustic, teepee wedding. However, since the coronavirus pandemic, we were forced to have a small, intimate, family affair in Nanny Val’s conservatory. It turned out that plan C was our most favourite!
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Where do I start?! Probably not to spend too much and to keep it intimate. We’re really happy that we’ve been forced to do both of these things. We learned early on that to please everyone, it becomes expensive. I guess we have coronavirus to thank for something!
