Chloe and Matt’s Wasing Park wedding, located in the gorgeous countryside of Berkshire, was just stunning! From the beautiful chapel, set in the heart of the grounds, to the rather cool dance moves in the evening – this was such a fun wedding! Check out their amazing day below!
First names: Chloe and Matt
Ages: Both 27
Wedding date: 28th May 2019
Venue: Wasing Park, Berkshire
How did you guys meet, tell me all?
We met at Loughborough University, thrown together in Block 21 of Rutherford Hall as Freshers in September 2010. We gradually got to know each other over the first 8 weeks of the year and just started spending more and more of our free time together. By the start of November we had realised that there was definitely more to our relationship than just being friends – although we have never actually had the “relationship” conversation, it was just sort of assumed – and 8 ½ years later here we are!
How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
We were away with a couple of friends from University (one was to go on and become Matt’s best man) glamping in a gorgeous site near Cambridge. We had made pizzas in the on-site pizza oven, drunk a few glasses of wine, watched the sunset and set up a campfire for the evening. Our friends decided to have an early night (I later found out that this was on Matt’s orders) and shortly after they had gone to bed Matt went into our tent to fetch what I thought was citronella spray for the flies and midges whilst I was sat staring up at the stars. When he returned I looked round and he was down on one knee with a ring in his hand and no citronella spray in sight – a completely wonderful surprise!
What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
We knew we wanted a barn style wedding and nothing that was too grand or over the top. We visited a few similar venues local to us but as soon as we drove down the drive into Wasing Park we both had such a positive feeling. The more we saw of the site the more we loved! We needed to have accommodation on-site for all of our travelling guests and the quirky rooms that Wasing has were unique and exactly the sort of thing we were after. Then finding out we could use the chapel on the same site was just the cherry on top of the perfect venue!
What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
Our main aim was to keep things simple. We went for lots of candles at different levels to decorate the whole venue, a pink colour scheme but keeping in dusky and pastel shades and tried to have small elements that really represent us – Chloe works in the wine industry so we recycled lots of corks and bottles into decorations.
What is your first song and why?
Our first dance is to Drops of Jupiter by Train. It’s not a traditional choice but we listened to a lot of Train in our first few weeks of University and this song just really resonates with us both and takes us back to the time we were getting to know each other.
What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
We found spending 1-2 hours in the evening, 3 days a week on wedding related things helped us to prioritise things and keep on top of everything that needed doing. With Chloe working weekends we don’t get a lot of time off together so we had to be organized. Do not underestimate the feeling of achievement when you tick something off a list!
