First names: James and Sarah
Ages: 27 and 25
Wedding date: 2nd September 2017
Venue: Nurstead Court, Meopham

How did you guys meet, tell me all?
Depends who you ask…
James: I met Sarah 7 years ago at university in Canterbury. I was in my final year but it was Sarah’s first week. I was introduced to her by a mutual friend and I remember it very well.
Sarah: I don’t remember this at all (whoops!) …however, I do remember turning up to a music rehearsal a few days later where James was as well, and thinking “who is the cocky guy at the front?”.
After several months of pub trips with mutual friends and getting to know each other better through university we organised a few dates. 2 months later, we finally made it official on a music tour to Spain.

How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
James: We are both big fans of food, so I knew I needed to include that in my proposal somehow. I knew that Sarah wouldn’t want a public proposal or anything fancy so a few days before Valentine’s day I suggested I cooked us both a meal, this was the same day that we had our first official date 5 years before. I had taken the day off work preparing her favourite meal, chicken burger and chips, and buying the ring (stressful!). I went to go and pick her up from the station, obviously feeling very nervous, but due to multiple train delays she was 2 hours late, and Sarah wasn’t in the mood for anything romantic. I told her she should run a bath and relax. I then set up the dining room and covered it in candles and laid out the food and wine. She soon appeared in her PJs and was in a much better mood. We had a lovely meal (she did anyway as I was too nervous to eat anything) and I then surprised her with a video montage I had made which ended with me getting down on one knee and popping the question. Still to this day she hasn’t said yes as she was too distracted by the ring!

What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
We knew from the start which church we wanted to get married in so we wanted a venue that was only a short drive away. It was important for us to choose somewhere that was a blank canvas we could put our own stamp on, and Sarah has always wanted to have a relaxed wedding reception so a marquee is great for that. Nurstead Court ticked all of these boxes, plus it is in a beautiful setting with lovely views of the Kent countryside.

What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
Home made and rustic, filled with lots of personal touches (including 100 meters of bunting made by Sarah!). We just wanted a relaxed day with friends and family.

What is your first song and why?
‘How Long Will I Love You’, the Jon Boden version from the film About Time. The lyrics are perfect, and this version is upbeat and from one of our favourite films.

What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Never forget who and what your day is really about!
Although it takes a lot of time, making your own decorations and stationary save lots of money plus the planning stage is supposed to be fun and it makes your day more personal.
