East Quay Venue Wedding // Lucy and Dean

East Quay Venue weddingA stunning, alternative and very cool East Quay Venue wedding in Whitstable, with the amazing Lucy and Dean. Easily one of my favourite venues in Kent, East Quay Venue just has that extra ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes a wedding go from zero to hero the moment you arrive! With a vintage theme throughout, stunning DIY details and Whitstable Beach on the doorstep, this was a wedding to remember, complete with dip in the sea!

First names: Lucy and Dean
Ages: Both 30
Wedding date: Friday 14 July 2017
Venue: East Quay Venue, Whitstable

How did you guys meet, tell me all?
We met at University; we were in the same halls and shared the same friendship group. At first we just started off as friends but then we started dating and 11 and a half years later, we decided to get married!

How did you get engaged, is there a cool story?
Dean – It was a surprise holiday to Iceland for Lucy’s birthday. It took months of planning to get right and all in complete secret. Lucy got off the train at our station and I was waiting there with a suitcase and tickets to Gatwick. Turns out that I had brought all the wrong clothes and completely messed up the makeup, but that just gave Lucy a good excuse to do some airport shopping! When we got there, we hired a 4×4 and drove across Iceland, staying in a different place each night; next to a glacier; on a black volcanic beach; on a series of hot springs. But the place I chose to ask the question was Glacier Lagoon, an incredibly beautiful and striking place, where shards of the huge glacier break off and float slowly across a lake, toward the sea.

What made you choose your wedding venue, did you look at many?
East Quay Venue was the only one and only venue we looked at but we chose it right away. We just knew it was exactly what we wanted: right next to the sea, relaxed and quirky.

What was the inspiration/theme of your wedding?
Ever so slightly vintage theme to match the engagement ring and our general style.

What is your first song and why?
Elbow, One day like this – Firstly because Guy Garvey has the voice of an angel! But mostly because we saw them at Glastonbury and the song has been ‘our song’ ever since.

What would be your number one tip to other couples planning their wedding?
Do it together. Make it about the two of you and share the tasks and ideas. We know that our wedding has been made by both of us equally and that makes us feel much more that it really is our day.
